Attitude, Success, and the Things That Hold Us Back

I consider part of what I do as being a life coach. I work with changing attitudes, thought patterns, self talk, etc., to help people reach goals they never thought they could attain. However, there are both intrinsic and extrinsic factors that get in the way sometimes that are indeed OUT of a person’s control when trying to reach a goal.

The debate will remain on-going whether or not intrinsic and/or extrinsic factors can get in the way, but to add to this debate is not the purpose of this article. The purpose is to discuss what holds us back from success.

I have read and listened to lecture after lecture by one of my favorite gurus, motivational speaker Tony Robbins, who described his struggles at one point of having to live out of his car when he was at his lowest. Look at him now.

I do believe strongly that attitude can pull one through most of the extrinsic factors that get in the way, but sometimes not. The intrinsic ones are a bit harder to get past as well. You can read about my thoughts on these subjects in some of my other articles including:

Are There Such Things as Brain Chemical Imbalances?

How is Our Emotional Health Affected by the Demarcation of Human Rights: Specifically Poverty?

Is it All in Our Thinking?

The purpose of this short commentary on attitude, success, and the things that hold us back  is to point out my understanding towards those who have true chemical imbalances and who need a little extra in the way of compassion and empathy to reach the goals they aspire to attain. Some people will never get there, and they need someone to help them through this kind of revelation and honest insight as well.

However, I do understand that those with chemical imbalances and the proper treatment for them, can also lead full and productive lives despite their disorder(s). It is not in my make-up to allow them to give up, unless I haven’t any other choice.

I understand chemical imbalances. I understand the fears that go along with mental/emotional disorders and I am here to lend an “ear” virtually to anyone struggling with the frustrations of having uncontrollable ‘demons”, as I have heard them called, hold them back from what they truly want in life.
