Don’t allow fears to get in the way of what you were meant to do/be. I know that may sound easier said than done, but if you truly want to accomplish something, we have to believe that most of the battle is in having the proper attitude, saying the correct things to ourselves, helping ourselves to conquer our fears, surrounding ourselves with positive influences, and getting counseling for what physically/mentally ails us.
Please don’t just pass off these words, but sit back and think about them for a while. You are worth every bit of energy and work that it will take to make yourself happy and to make your life one of high quality. It’s all up to you and the decisions you make for yourself. My last article, “Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying” shares some of these thoughts.
No, don’t say, “But”, “I can’t”, “It’s impossible”, “It’s not realistic”. Because EVERYTHING is possible! Turn your “stinking thinking” around and begin to work with positive affirmation instead. “I can”, “I will”, “I’m worth every ounce of strength it takes to make my dreams and goals come true”.
Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying. I suggest the former. Please, just try. No more excuses. Turn dreams into goals, enjoy the journey, and never give up. Everything and everyone we come across in life is brought to us for a reason. Always believe…

08|Jun|2009 1What a wonderful message of hope! I’ve just began to truly embrace this idea that life is a beautiful adventure. Not that I didn’t think it was before - more that I held myself back from fully living. And being in this place - where I’m much more in alignment with my inner soul - and being okay to express that - is an amazing place to be!

08|Jun|2009 2That is one thing I am really working on is living life like I want to. I have thought for so many years that a certain kind of life, one of adventure and excitement, wasn’t in the cards for me. Then, with a little help of a friend, I decided to go for it in life. I wasn’t going to let opportunities pass me by because I thought I wasn’t suppose to be able to enjoy them. Now, I am a bit more adventurous. I am out on my canoe pretty often, finding new places to explore. Next year I am going sky diving for my birthday. In a year I am going on a mission trip to Uganda (I’ve never been out of the US before) and the best, I am saving to buy an ultralight to learn to fly. I can’t wait. My biggest regret is that it took me so many years to realize I can do the adventurous things I always secretly wanted to do.

09|Jun|2009 3Thank you for another amazing post of hope. Reading your blog makes me know I can do it. I can do it. I can do it. I keep telling myself this and by taking baby steps, I am branching out, doing more, being more social and getting a better quality to my life. You have really helped me.

13|Jun|2009 4Good post.
From my perspective, I have been at this goal all along. But what has sidetracked me were the persons I was led to believe are suppose to support your dreams. You know, the relatives that you have, the frienemies you soon realize are never interested in your ambitions or dreams. (And have the labels that come with it: ‘delusional’ seems to be a pop. word for someone content with the status quo OR feels you are setting up for a downward slide.)
I think those that are damaged early on, have to find things much more on their own - philosophies, spirituality, quirky support and off the beaten path ideas - before they can reach any sign. achievement.
One book I recently look at (Talent is Overrated) posits that even the most intelligent, creative and innovative souls take about 10 years to reach their groundbreaking objective. (And many examples can support that: Henry Ford was thought a failure by his own father - too much tinkering on that car thingy - and then, he tested that model in the mid 1890’s. It still took another decade, and two biz failures, to get Ford up and running. (Leaving aside Ford’s viewpoints on others - what one thinks on a part. subject, that he’s usually less versed in, should not undermine what achievements are made elsewhere.)
This from a guy with a 7th grade education (which it also seems that the most creative are not your PHDs - but those that have a fair amount of education, say 2-4 years, and learn the rest in their field strictly on their own.) Tinkering around with a vision means that other situations are always going to be rough - people think you are wasting time (theirs) and putting too much into whatever you are planning out, moving around to achieve.
I can not say with certainty that what I am striving for is indeed a realistic goal. The outside world tends to see you as nutty if you don’t like a 9-5 job, supporting a family without complaint, and the adventures you may forego to live some sanitized version of the American Dream.
But the ride gets bumpy without the companionship and support and resources to make it. You self-doubt ALOT. Even when you breakthrough, and no one sees it, you have a hard time assessing the high you get from ti, but can not adequately share with others - because they just see it as more foolishness.
SO, you trug on. Hoping in a decade of search and survival, you make it.
Keep On those that read. You can do no worse - and you will learn something about yourselves and OTHERS.

16|Jun|2009 5I hope that my ‘recent adventure’ can spur a robust discussion. I have linked the blog on this answer to America above. But the entire draft document is located at:
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/7234193/A-Second-Constitutional-Convention
I am only advertising (sorry) this because I duly feel it is a grave matter that needs people who understand and acknowledge the problems ahead and can think open-mindedly enough about the path I am suggesting.
As Einstein famously said: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
I feel we cannot solve our nation’s current health care, financial, manufacturing, National Debt and name-your-country-in-need Crisis with the same sort of thinking we used to get into these messes. No matter the side of the spectrum you represent politically, Our Nation, Our Constitution requires our assistance. But 300,000,000+ voices organized 1,000,000 different ways and going 250,000 directions does not solve the problem. One path - many voices on that path.
What I propose is fair, logical and non-partisan. It means more that just about anything else - the continuation of the United States as the bastion of Freedom and Hope and Vitality. Posterity requires it.
Pass it along.

05|Jul|2009 6Great post, Dr Kelly.
I cannot find anything I can disagree with your wise thought.
Life is a choice is depend on how you paint on it. It can be a beautiful adventure as you said or otherwise.
Even if you opt to be a beautiful adventure, then we must noticed that the beautiful adventure is accordingly to whose perspective. Beautiful is very subjective accordingly to the eye of beholder. In this sense, we must realize that it is a relative concept vary from one person to another.
Once, this has been well settled. Then, I believe Faith will play the supreme important for this role. Faith is what you believe in and you are fully convicted and convinced of achieving in it.
That belief will then give rise to him the extraordinary energy, which would otherwise able to do it. That belief must be strongly ingrained into his heart and mind that the burning flames will keep in persistently doing no matter what hassles he has to overcome.
To that stage, he shall not afraid of its result.

13|Jul|2009 12Dear Jason,
Thank you once again for your amazing cathartic writing and contribution to my articles! I always appreciate your honesty and candor. Don’t lost sight of the goals you have set for yourself and don’t let others sidetrack you. You must first and foremost count on yourself!
Please understand that it doesn’t matter what grade education you have…it is NEVER too late to learn and grow into the person you want to be. I know you already know this.
We all have self-doubt when we do not take the route that society thinks we should, but we still shouldn’t allow that to stop us from our goals in life. At the end of the day, it shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks. It should only matter what YOU think about yourself and your life. And if you are happy with that, what more can you ask for in life? Be your own best friend!
Please keep on your journey, as I see you growing each post you leave here. I appreciate and am honored to read what you have to say.
All my best,
Dr. KC

13|Jul|2009 13Dear Jason,
Einstein, being the brilliant man he was, had so much to say in the quote you wrote above. Our paths are always changing, as are our lives. Every day brings something new and every door we enter has something else to offer. We may set out to accomplish a goal with tunnel vision of how we are going to do it, but that can so easily change. I think the bottom line is that no matter how we go about accomplishing our goals, we never stop!
One day at a time. One person at a time. One idea at a time. America’s financial crisis has got to get better eventually. At least we have to think that way.
All my best,
Dr. KC

13|Jul|2009 14Dear James Oh,
Thank you so much for joining our discussion here and contributing such great wisdom. Life is indeed all about one’s attitude as I believe you are alluding to through your words. We can make life what we want it to be. Beauty, success, prosperity, and happiness are of course all subjective and everyone has their own definitions of what each of these mean to them.
With faith and believe…you should not be afraid of outcomes. I could not agree with you more. Thank you again for visiting and I hope you will return often.
All my best,
Dr. KC
