Dear Laurie,

I respect your opinion very much. I think that everything has its time and its place and if people want to see explicit sex scenes or nudity, they know where to find it. Mainstream movies do have ratings and explanation of those ratings, so we have our choice whether or not we want to see what they have to offer.

The truth is that sex sells and there is nothing anyone can do about that. There is also something grand to be said for leaving things ups the imagination.

Thank you for your comment.
Please continue to read and post your thoughts. They are much appreciated here.

I also think that nudity and explicit movie sex robs something from the viewer. How much more sexy and inviting is the suggestion of nudity and sex than actually seeing it? That way, the viewer can use their imagination and make it whatever is sexy to them. It allows the viewer to use their creative side!

Dear Laurie,

I have to agree with you and hence this article! The world is full of all different kinds of people and the truth is that what ever sells the most amount of money is what will win out. This is what is giving us the kind of things we have to choose from to view on the big screen. I guess the key word there is “choose”, however, most are choosing the inappropriate (in yours and my eyes) and so, it’s a difficult fight to win. So, we accept and say, “each to their own”. Whatever makes someone able to live with themselves is what is important.

Thank you so much for your comment.
I hope you will continue reading and posting. You have great insight!

This reminds me of a comdian who had invited his grandmother to see his act. In it he went for the shock laugh from his cussing and such. After the show he asked his grandmother if she liked his show. She told him yes, he was very funny but anyone could get the cheep laugh from shocking people. He was creative enough to get the true laugh from being cleaver and genuinley funny. Since then, he has never gone for the cheep laugh and has been very successful. I think the movie industry is going for the cheep shock with nudity and not making their money by being creative and artistic. They are cheating themselves of being truly creative and talented and robbing the public of their ability to produce a quality product.

Hope young aspiring actors will have a good support system around them, ie parents, manager, acting teachers, agents, that can, excuse me, WILL steer a child in the right direction.

However, I think Halle Berry is not the best example to use. Halle Berry was in her late thirties, I believe, when this movie was filmed. She is a mature adult, making a mature decision. She is a seasoned actress that understands what she is doing. The movie was given an "R" rating, which was the correct thing to do.

In my opinion...my OWN opinion, I think the Vanity Fair photo shoot of Mily Cyrus would be a better example to use to bring up for this discussion, or at least reference it. Seeing only one photo of her, sitting "seductively" with only a blanket, and showing off her back was a prime example of a young entertainer making a unwise choice that could affect her in the future.

Dear Tommy,

Yes, violence in movies is a whole other subject. If Halle Berry was happy with her choice to go topless in that movie, than more power to her and her career. We just want to teach our youth (and especially aspiring actors) to make choices that are right for them. It's really as simple as that.

Thanks for your comment and please keep reading.

As far as Halle Berry in Swordfish, I had more of an issue with her at the end of the movie being hung, and then supposedly shot in the chest and murdered, than her being shown without a top. How many people "died" in that movie? A dozen, two dozen? My oldest son saw the movie, when he was about ten years old, at his mom's house before I ever watched it. I'll be honest, I was upset about that for the violence than the two second shot of Halle without a top on.

It's like the old saying goes..."I would rather my children watching two people making love than two people killing each other".

Dear Kirk,

Please don't misunderstand MY definition of exploitation and the idea of nudity altogether. It was never said here that there is anything wrong with the female OR the male nude form, or that it was offensive in any way, shape, or form (no pun intended). It can be very beautiful indeed.

The topic at hand was making sure that both males and females are making decisions based on what is best for them and for their self confidence and self esteem. The discussion here is about educating and teaching our children and adults as well, to be strong individuals with the courage and insight to make the correct choices as they go out into a pretty tough world; especially the world of the Entertainment Industry.

The key to emotionally healthy children and adults as high self worth.

Thank you for your comment!
Please keep reading.

Interesting blog, KC.

I'm a man, and I'll tell you the truth about how I feel about nudity, whether it is in film or publication. First of all, I think that the female human being is, without a doubt, the most beautiful creation of our planet. I also believe that it's natural for me to feel that way. I'm not ashamed to say so.

Why, as a society, do we find a nude female, or male human being, to be offensive? Who decided it was offensive? What makes it tacky?

Whether it sells movies or not, is up to the moviegoer. I don't believe for one minute, that if a movie is good, but there was a nude scene in it, that this will stop someone from going to see it. Nor should it stop someone if there isn't.

Honestly, you call it exploitation, but I can only believe that, this point of view is one that has been passed on for centuries. Who decided to give nudity a bad rap?, think about it. I believe, that the very fact, that nudity should be hidden from our youth, is the root cause of why it is most sought after in later years. It's a misconception of those who really think that nudity is offensive. Why is such a beautiful thing, offensive? And we wonder why our world is so full of troubles. It's the way we see things, the way we think about things, that we need to really look at. Having judgment, is going to be the downfall of humanity. Being judgmental about anything, is what keeps the human race separated. Sorry, I got a little carried away, but I saw this as chance to say what I really feel, without repercussion, after all, it is the internet...

I wrote this a while back, as KC knows, but I asked my 18 yr old daughter the other day... I said, "I notice with the nice weather, how most women are dressed to be noticed, and they're looking to see if you notice, is it because you want to be noticed? " And, she said, "Of course" as she's wearing her low cut shirt, she almost caused an accident a while back, she tells me. So I asked if her if she thought it was wrong for me to be looking at pretty models on the computer, and she saw nothing wrong with it, after all, it is the point, isn't it? Women do dress in somewhat revealing clothing for a reason, to be noticed, and there is satisfaction in knowing that they are tantalizing the male response. Which naturally leads to the desire to see more of what has already been revealed. The nude female is very appealing to the eyes of man, always has been, always will be.
